Inertial Aerosystems announce a new, highly accurate, dual axis tilt meter. Where a GPS antenna is mounted at the top of a structure, mast or building, any movement gives rise to an error in the surveyed position. This may be caused by earthquake, foundation settlement, wind loading etc.
The digital tilt meter is coupled to the GPS receiver and outputs the inclination of the antenna structure in a NMEA string, either continuous or on command. Output rate is up to 8 readings per second. The data is parsed and processed by the GPS receiver to correct for short and long term changes in inclination. In addition to use in earthquake early warning systems, applications include monitoring of engineering structures e.g. nuclear reactors, radar antennas, subsidence in commercial and domestic buildings and maritime survey vessels
